Background & Personality info:

Maru and Moro (originally 'Maru-dashi' and 'Moro-dashi', meaning 'Flashing' and 'Streaking') are two seeminly young girls who, at first, act as a sort of receptionists in Yuuko's store. They usually help around the store, putting away some of the things Yuuko obtains as payments for the wishes she grants, and sometimes even helping Watanuki with cooking and cleaning and any chores he has to do inside the store.
It's unknown what they really are, all we know is that they lack a soul (and therefore can't leave the store), that they have some sort of magical power that makes Yuuko's store exist, and also do some things like be used so that Yuuko can communicate telepathically to Watanuki. Their ages and origin remain a mystery. It doesn’t seem like they have any sort of unusual power (it hasn’t been hinted at, unlike Larg who we’re told will be very important in the future), it seems like whatever power or ability they have is meant to keep the store existing. Maru and Moro sometimes have to stay asleep for long periods of time, something that's connected with the store's magic. It could be that the girls’ mere existence is what makes the store show up, which would explain why they can’t ever leave it.
They're usually around Yuuko (often fanning her or handing her food, or hugging her – or even kissing her XD- ), or Watanuki (half the time helping him, half the time annoying him), talking in unison, repeating things Yuuko says, teasing Watanuki almost as much as Yuuko herself, and just generally having fun. They don’t seem to have any malice in them, since whenever they repeat things that Yuuko say that’re mean, they seem not to mean any harm. They apparently just like to echo Yuuko’s words.
They actually seem to care about Watanuki a lot, as they both kept quiet when Watanuki was recovering after the incident with the lady in the park, and they were the ones who dragged Watanuki out of the store so Doumeki could find him.
Maru and Moro seem to be generally in a good mood, being playful and cutesy most of the time. They’re rarely seen in a serious mood, and even when they are, it doesn’t last too long.
The girls usually wear the same sort of dresses, Maru some dark one with devil wings, and Moro a white one with angel wings. While their dresses change throughout the series, the devil/angel, dark/light theme is constant, something understandable with how the series deals with balance and ying/yang (and for CLAMP charas, who so often are drawn as opposites – see X, CCS, TRC, etc).
